IKAI Natural Khasi Sticky Rice Dhs. 52.84 AED
IKAI Natural Khasi Sticky RiceAbout the Product: Sticky rice could easily be one of the most essential grains globally. Nearly half of the world's population eats different varieties of it every day. The origin of this rice can be traced back to Southeast Asia. Our Natural Khasi Sticky Rice, a glutinous rice, from Meghalaya is actually naturally gluten-free! It is known as Khaw Pnah or as Khaw Shulia in the local dialect. High in amylopectin and low in amylose, it is also favoured by the tribals to make varieties of excellent, local rice beer. This sticky rice is sourced from tribal farmers who still follow traditional practices of not using chemical fertilisers or pesticides. Why eat it? Easy to digest, sticky rice is mildly sweet and chewy. It is packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre. It is best cooked by steaming its grains. The sticky rice recipe is easy to emulate in a modern kitchen too. It can be eaten as a cereal, meal, in sushi or as a dessert. If you haven't tasted this rice yet, there's a lot you've missed. Dig in right away. Cooking tips: Sticky rice cooks best in steam and not in water. For this method, soak the rice at room temperature for at least 4 hours. Then, cook it in steam, like you do for idli’s dhoklas’s etc. A bamboo steamer or any rack steamer works for this along with a muslim cloth. Steaming time is nearly 20-30 mins. IKAI Natural Assam Black Rice Dhs. 53.07 AED
IKAI Natural Assam Black RiceAbout the Product: Our Natural Black Rice from Assam is what legends are made of. It is supposed to have originated in China nearly 4000 years ago, and then rumoured to have migrated to Northeast India. In the early days, these delicious black grains were only considered fit for kings. Black rice was called 'Forbidden Rice' or 'Emperor Rice' because of superior healing powers. In the mediaeval era it was sparsely cultivated and hence expensive to buy. The tribals grow more of it today, but without using any chemical fertilisers or pesticides. So bite into its mildly nutty spell now and forget all your worries! Why eat it? Black Rice is the elite cousin of red rice. It is a naturally grown native food indigenous to Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur. This variety from Assam is low in starch, turns purple when cooked and is rich in antioxidants, minerals and fibre. This rice takes a little longer to cook. But it’s totally worth the extra time because black rice benefits your overall health. It is known to be anti-angiogenic/angiogenesis and anti-carcinogenic. Buy it to eat your way to good health.  Cooking tips:  The best way to cook black rice is by first soaking it for 3-4 hours. This substantially reduces the cooking time. Add the soaked rice to boiling hot water. The cooking time can vary from 45 mins to an hour, so remember to add lots of water, or keep adding boiling water, if the water level is low. When the rice turns purple and yields when pinched with fingers, it is done. Best enjoyed with spicy dishes. Legal Disclaimer: Product images are for illustrative purposes only. IKAI Organic Lokwan Atta Dhs. 69.04 AED
IKAI Organic Lokwan AttaAbout the Product: One of the older indigenous varieties of wheat produced in India, Lokwan has more bran and germ than the Sharbati variety. Our Organic Lokwan Atta is unique to Madhya Pradesh. The extra barn makes the Atta dull in colour after grinding, but more nutritious.   Why eat it?  The Lokwan atta has a high protein content, making it best for rolling thin Indian chapatis, parathas etc. It is high on gluten too, so people with gluten sensitivity should have it in moderation. But, it has enough goodness to control Type 2 diabetes, maintain cardiovascular health and aid digestion. Savour this atta to relish its virtues! Cooking tips: While making the dough for chapatis please ensure that you add more water as compared to other atta. Set it aside for 15-20 mins before rolling it out, or refrigerate for later. IKAI Organic Sattu Dhs. 44.31 AED
IKAI Organic SattuAbout the Product: Sattu is the world's most ancient instant food. It helped armies and travellers survive harsh conditions over long periods. It was also used as a form of payment for in-war battalions. The origin of Sattu can be traced to the Indo-gangetic plain and it is mentioned in the literature of the 16th century of eastern UP & Bihar. Traditionally, Sattu is made from Bengal gram. Bengal gram is first soaked in water overnight. Then it is dried under the sun. Post drying it is roasted over a woodfire using sand. The sand ensures even distribution of heat, while keeping its nutrients intact. The roasted gram is then milled along with the husk. The process imparts an earthy taste and aroma to the final product, and also ensures it lasts longer. Our Organic Sattu or roasted gram powder, is the stuffing for the famous litti, of the Litti Chokha combination. It has recently found fame as a protein drink.  Why eat it? Looking for plant based protein as a post work out supplement? Look no further. Our Organic Sattu can provide this within minutes. It is packed with protein, insoluble fibre and minerals.
