Description

IKAI Natural Kokum (Dried Mangosteen)

About the Product:

  • Kokum, the fruit of the Garcinia Indica tree, is native to the tropical rainforests of the Western Ghats of India, including Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala. Our natural kokum is sourced from farmers who follow traditional farming practices without the use of pesticides or chemicals.
  • The kokum fruit is sun-dried and widely used in Indian cooking to add a distinctive tangy flavor to curries, stews, and regional dishes. It is also commonly used to prepare refreshing beverages during warm weather.
  • Cooking Tips:
Kokum is often used to enhance the tangy taste of curries and coastal recipes. Before use, the dried fruit can be soaked in water for a few hours and then strained to obtain the pulp for cooking. It pairs well with coconut milk to prepare solkadhi, a popular drink from coastal Maharashtra and Goa. You can also mix the soaked pulp with water, salt, and jaggery to prepare a traditional kokum sharbat.
