About the Product:
- A short grain, quick cooking rice, the exquisite aroma of Ambemore will remind you of mango blossoms. Ambemore actually means Mango blossom in the Marathi language. The favoured rice of the Peshwa rulers, our Organic Ambemore Rice has recently been Geographically tagged to the Mulshi region of Pune district in the eastern foothills of the Sahyadri range in Maharashtra. It makes the best local Rice Khanji or Bhataji Pej. It’s cooked on auspicious occasions and festivities.
- Why eat it?
- It is easy to digest and keeps the stomach light. The aroma spreads far and wide and is fresh and fruity. This variety was dying out, as it is labour intensive and low yielding. Calling all rice connoisseurs to dig in so that this heirloom rice from Maharashtra can be saved for future generations!
- Cooking tips:
- These white pearly grains can be cooked in the traditional way. If pressure cooked they tend to become sticky. They take about 10 mins to cook when soaked for a couple of hours. They turn out best when cooked in excess water for about 8-10 minutes and then drained."
