The male protagonist Jim Hawkin finds the map and speaks to his friends Dr. Livesey and a squire, Mr. Trelawney and they decide to venture to this mystical treasure island to hunt for said treasure. Robert Louis Stevenson Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was an incredibly popular and successful Scottish writer. He came from a long line of prominent lighthouse engineers, however, he studied law and had a great interest in literature. His first successful novel, Treasure Island was published in 1884, followed by A Child's Garden of Verses in 1885, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in 1886.
