Tarjume aur Mukalme - Anis Ashfaq

About The Product:

This book comprises six writings, presented in the form of dialogues and translations—four of which are in the format of conversations. Among these, two interviews (from 1978–1977) were conducted in person with Khalilur Rahman Azmi and Shahryar, while two significant dialogues—originally in English (with Milan Kundera) and Hindi (with Nirmal Verma)—have been rendered into Urdu. All four conversations delve deeply and thoughtfully into various genres of literature and the questions and challenges surrounding them. Of the remaining two pieces, one is a notable preface by the renowned French writer and playwright Albert Camus, written in 1957, where he discusses the themes and stylistic approaches of his four celebrated plays. The other is a perceptive essay by the eminent historian Professor Mohibbul Hasan, shedding light on Babur’s life—his adventurous spirit, daily routines, and military strategies. Reading these pieces not only broadens the reader’s literary and historical understanding but also sharpens their insight and intellectual awareness. Anees Ashfaq, author of more than twenty-five books, is a poet, novelist, critic, translator, and short story writer. Though he has worked across multiple genres, his primary domain is literary criticism. He has published eight major critical collections, which engage with both classical and contemporary literature, including: 'Urdu Ghazal mein Alaamat Nigari' (1995), 'Adab ki Batein' (1996), 'Bahas-o-Tanqeed' (2009), 'Ghazal ka Naya Alaamati Nizaam' (2011), 'Ghalib: Duniya-e-Ma'aani ka Mutala'a' (2022), 'Adab ki Batein' – Expanded Second Edition (2024), 'Seedhi Batein, Saada Mataalib' (2024), 'Dariya ke Rang: Urdu Marsiye ke ma'aanvi Jihaat' (2024). Although his critical essays began appearing in literary journals during his student years, it was the publication of 'Urdu Ghazal Mein Alaamat Nigari' that established him as a recognized voice in literary criticism. Anees Ashfaq is also the author of four well-received novels: 'Dukhiyaare' (2014), 'Khwaab Saraab' (2017), 'Parinaaz aur Parinday' (2018), 'Haich' (2024). His short story collection 'Katbe Padhne Wale' (2015) and a poetry collection titled 'Ek Neza Khoon-e-Dil' (2019) have also been published. In addition, Anees Ashfaq has written biographical sketches, monographs, reportage, travelogues, and memoirs. His forthcoming book 'Mere Ladakpan ka Lucknow' offers a nostalgic glimpse into his early years. He has been honored with several prestigious literary awards, including the International Ghalib Award, Iqbal Samman, Sahitya Akademi Award, and many other distinguished accolades.
